When someone talks about sharing a digital contact, the term "vCard online" usually points to one of three things: a small contact file you can email or download, a QR code that hands over those contact details on scan, or a Wallet card sitting inside a phone's native wallet app. They look similar on the surface, but they behave differently for the person on the receiving end. Picking the wrong one usually means an awkward moment: a QR that opens nothing useful, a file that lands in spam, or a card that the recipient's phone refuses to recognise.
Understanding those differences is what this guide is for. It walks through what each format really does, where QREasy's free contact QR generator fits, and when it makes sense to step up to a hosted website or a mobile Wallet card. The aim is a practical match between how you share and what the other person experiences, not a sales pitch.

What "vCard Online" Actually Means
At its simplest, a vCard is a standardised digital contact file. The classic extension is .vcf, and most phones, mail clients and contact apps know how to open one. When someone says "send me a vCard" they normally mean a small file containing the same fields you would write on a paper business card: name, phone, email, sometimes a role, company or address.
The phrase "vCard online" stretches that idea in two directions. Sometimes it means a vCard file that lives on a website so visitors can download it. Sometimes it means a QR code that hands those same fields directly to a scanning phone. In practice, the underlying data is the same; only the delivery method changes. A file is something the visitor saves. A QR code is something the visitor scans and is then offered to save.
That distinction matters because each path has different maintenance behaviour. A hosted vCard file or a website Save Contact button can be updated in one place; any QR codes already printed still point to whatever was current at scan time. A static vCard QR code, by contrast, has the contact data embedded into the image itself, so updating the details later means generating and reprinting the code. QREasy's contact card generator is built around that distinction: you can build a contact card once and either share the file or pair it with a QR.
Static vCard QR Codes vs. Digital Business Cards vs. Wallet Cards
Three formats usually get bundled under "digital business card," and that is where most confusion starts. Separating them by what they actually contain, and what happens after a scan, makes the choice clearer.
A static contact QR embeds the contact details into the visual code. A compatible phone camera recognises it, surfaces the data on screen, and lets the recipient choose to save it. Because the details are baked in, updating them later means a new QR, which is a problem if the code is already printed on a flyer or a stack of cards. A static URL QR is a different thing: it encodes a web address, and whatever lives at that address can be changed without reprinting the code, as long as the URL itself stays the same.
A digital business card in the broader market sense is usually a hosted profile: a small page, sometimes with a person, a logo, links and a button that downloads a contact file. Editing the profile does not require new codes. The data reaches the recipient through a file download, a website button, or a QR that opens the profile, depending on how the tool is wired. This is the space QREasy's templates and website builder sit in.
Wallet cards sit inside the phone's native wallet app, alongside boarding passes and loyalty cards. QREasy currently supports Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. The contact-only Wallet card hands over the contact details on save. The website-linked Wallet card encodes a website address; scanning it opens that address in the phone browser, not as a page running inside Wallet. Wallet generation processes data on the service side, and behaviour after save depends on the recipient's phone and operating system. Neither path promises automatic saving on every device, and neither relies on NFC tap exchange or contact identification behind the scenes.

How QREasy's Free Contact Card and QR Generator Work
QREasy keeps the simple path genuinely simple. The free contact card generator opens in your browser, lets you fill in name, phone, email and a small amount of supporting detail, and produces a preview you can adjust before exporting. The basic contact QR is generated in your browser rather than on the back end, which keeps the round-trip short and avoids sending personal contact details through extra infrastructure just to make a first draft.
From the same workflow you can drop the contact into a Wallet card for Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. That card is included on the free plan and shares contact data on scan. If all you need is a way to hand someone your details and you are happy to regenerate the QR when anything changes, this is the lowest-cost route and uses no monthly subscription. It does not aim to be a CRM or a tap-to-share system; it is a straightforward contact sharing path.
The QR generator section also handles plain static URL codes and dynamic codes for cases where the destination may change. In practice, an older camera app or a slightly damaged code can still fail, which is why it is worth testing on at least one recent phone and one older model before relying on a printed batch.
When You Need More Than a Free Contact Card
The free tier is generous, but it does have edges that matter once contact sharing becomes part of a real workflow. The first signal that you have outgrown it is usually that your details keep changing. A role title shifts, a phone number moves, an email rotates after a rebrand. Each change with a static contact QR means a fresh batch of codes; each change with a hosted page means editing one record.
A second signal is volume. If you are running a small business with several staff, a team page that lists everyone and links to individual contacts usually saves more time than handing out the same file over and over. QREasy's one-page website builder is the natural step here: choose a template, drop in a services section, an about block, a Save Contact button and a map, and publish under a stable address. Editing any block updates what is served at that address, with no new QR required.
A third signal is wanting a website-linked Wallet card. This is the variant whose QR opens a website through the phone browser on scan, which is what most people picture when they imagine a "digital business card." Because of how Wallet cards are provisioned, the website-linked version is on the Lite SME and Business plans. The Business plan also raises website and dynamic QR limits enough for a small team running campaigns, events or several locations; Lite SME sits in between for solo operators and small outfits.
Choosing the Right Option for How You Share Contacts
Match the format to the situation rather than picking the most powerful option by default. A printed poster, a one-off conference or a single freelancer handing out cards in person rarely needs more than a free contact QR or a hosted one-page site. A printed poster also benefits from being a static URL QR with the website address inside, so the recipient can be redirected to a current page later, while the poster itself does not need to change.
Email signatures and PDFs are good places for a hosted Save Contact button instead. The button opens or downloads a vCard file built from the section details, so the file the recipient receives always matches whatever is currently saved on the site. Editing and saving the section updates what the button serves; it does not require a new QR. The website button, the free contact-QR generator and the Wallet card are three different interfaces for related jobs, and treating them interchangeably tends to hide their real trade-offs.
For a small business with a website, staff turnover and printed materials that stay in the field for months, the website-linked Wallet card is usually the right ceiling. It removes the need to reprint codes when a phone number moves, it ties the card to a page you fully control, and it sits naturally on a Lite SME or Business plan that also covers the hosted site. For everything lighter than that, the free path through QREasy's vCard page covers most needs without a subscription.
Gyakori kérdések
Not exactly. A vCard QR code embeds contact details into the image and lets a scanning phone save them. A digital business card usually means a hosted page, often with a button that downloads a contact file. The data is similar; how it is delivered and updated is different.
No. A compatible camera or reader shows the details and offers the recipient the choice to save. Automatic saving, tap-based exchange and contact identification are not promised, and behaviour depends on the recipient's phone and operating system.
A contact Wallet card shares contact data on scan and is included on the free plan. A website-linked Wallet card encodes a website address, opens it in the phone browser on scan, and is available on Lite SME and Business plans. The two QR codes behave differently after a scan.
It depends on the QR. A static contact QR has the details embedded, so updates mean a new code. A static URL QR with a stable web address can keep pointing to fresh content. A dynamic QR uses a managed redirect so the destination can change within plan limits. A hosted website or a Save Contact button can be edited without generating a replacement code at all.
Yes. The free plan supports one website up to one page, one dynamic QR code and unlimited static QR codes, plus Contact Wallet cards. Website-linked Wallet cards require Lite SME or Business. Specific plan details, including prices and analytics history, live on the pricing page.
